Snohomish First Street walk-and-talks are next month
The First Street advisory committee in Snohomish is debating a proposal to convert sidestreets between First and Second into one-way roads to allow for angled parking, potentially adding 50 new stalls. Scheduled public walk-and-talks in October will provide residents the opportunity to voice their opinions on the future of First Street. While Avenues B and C may be altered to one-way, the committee suggests leaving A and Union unchanged. Public Works Director Nova Heaton highlighted the necessity of analyzing traffic circulation before making any decisions. Ken Coman, head of the Historic Downtown Snohomish Association, noted that local business owners generally oppose changes to the street.
One proposal includes halting all vehicle traffic at the intersection of First and Avenue D when pedestrians want to cross. Additionally, the committee informally approved adding parking on First Street west of Avenue D and disconnecting traffic from First onto Second at that intersection. The city is collecting public comments through an online survey, with over 300 responses received so far.
