Snohomish County Public Works Completes Federal Grant-Funded Preservation Projects
Snohomish County Public Works has successfully completed bridge and rural road preservation projects this summer, funded by federal grants. The projects included rehabilitation of Red Bridge 537 and an asphalt overlay on 140th St NW/NE, aimed at maintaining critical infrastructure and saving taxpayer money. The total cost for the 140th St NW/NE overlay was $3. 1 million, with $840,000 sourced from a federal grant and the remaining $2. 26 million from the County Road Fund.
The Red Bridge improvements, which included paint removal and structural repairs, cost $3. 62 million, fully funded by a federal grant. County Executive Dave Somers emphasized the necessity of these projects, stating that without grants, such improvements would be unattainable. The Transportation Improvement Plan currently calls for a ratio of $3 in grant funding for every $1 spent from local tax revenue. Public Works Director Kelly Snyder acknowledged the support from state and federal legislators in securing funding for these essential projects.
These preservation efforts are crucial for ensuring efficient transportation access for residents and visitors alike.
