City waiting for favorable funding before moving on new city buildings

Snohomish, WALocal News

The construction of Fire District 4’s headquarters in Snohomish is set for completion in late 2026, while the City Hall project remains paused pending funding. City officials have allocated $11. 17 million but are exploring municipal bonds to cover the estimated $54. 99 million cost after design changes. City Administrator Heather Thomas-Murphy expressed concerns over the outdated current City Hall, emphasizing the need for more space.

Revised designs reduced the planned structure to two stories, leading to a loss of square footage but allowing for shared workspaces. The city aims to improve energy efficiency and accessibility with the new building. The project also seeks funding from state and federal sources, including a $1 million allocation from the state budget. Municipal bonds are currently delayed due to market conditions, with a reassessment planned closer to the end of 2026. This development is crucial for enhancing local public services and infrastructure.
