Snohomish northern annexation proceeding
The Snohomish City Council voted 7-0 to proceed with the annexation of 241 acres, which includes the North Ridge neighborhood and 145 parcels. This decision aims to support the city's housing needs and facilitate the integration of additional residents into city services. North Ridge residents expressed concerns over potential lifestyle changes and the necessity of annexation, arguing their neighborhood is self-sufficient with its own water district. The city will allow a range of housing densities in the annexed area, including single-family lots with a minimum size of 7,200 square feet. The Boundary Review Board has 45 days to review the annexation plan before the City Council can formally authorize it.
Property taxes from the annexed land are expected to begin in 2027, and existing septic systems will remain until failures occur. The city has identified this area as one of three potential annexation zones. Public hearings were held to address community concerns regarding the annexation process.
