Reptile Zoo in Monroe to close

Snohomish, WALocal News

The Reptile Zoo in Monroe, which has provided educational experiences for nearly 30 years, will close on October 18 due to financial difficulties. Owner Isaac Petersen cited significant losses during COVID-19, rising inflation, and a steady decline in attendance, which dropped by 10% each year for the past two years. He is currently seeking a buyer for the zoo's animals and equipment, with a sale price of $385,000, excluding the property. If a buyer is not found by September 15, Petersen intends to sell the animals and materials separately. Following the announcement of the closure, the zoo saw an increase in visitor numbers.

Petersen emphasized that while the zoo has struggled financially, educational shows conducted by his father, the Reptile Man, have remained profitable. Scott Petersen, along with his daughter April Jackson, will continue to offer educational programs even after the zoo's closure. The Reptile Zoo's website lists various animals available for adoption, including alligators and tarantulas.
