Index-Galena Road Flood Repair project wins the 2025 APWA Project of the Year Award
Snohomish County Public Works has been awarded the 2025 APWA Project of the Year Award for the Index-Galena Road Flood Repair project, which falls under the transportation category for projects valued between $25 to $75 million. The project successfully relocated the road from the floodplain and upgraded 15 drainage culverts while creating various ecological enhancements. These included installing over 40,000 native plants and features like engineered log jams to foster biodiversity. Stuart Bennion, Senior Vice President at WSP, commended the County for its collaboration in overcoming challenges posed by the rugged terrain and environmental commitments. Lane Shinnick from Goodfellow Bros.
emphasized the importance of adaptability and teamwork in meeting environmental restrictions during the project. This award marks the second consecutive year that Snohomish County Public Works has been recognized nationally, following the 2024 APWA award for the Little Bear Creek Advance Mitigation Site project. The LBCAMS project restored a 17-acre site near Woodinville to meet mitigation requirements for future roadway projects. The ongoing commitment to quality infrastructure while respecting the environment showcases the county's dedication to community needs.
