Harvey Field airport expansion plan gets notable OK at FAA

Snohomish, WALocal News

The FAA approved Harvey Field's plan to consolidate its runways into a single 2,400-foot asphalt runway, dismissing the need for an extensive environmental impact statement. This expansion requires relocating Airport Way, which is currently 10 feet from the runway's edge. Local opponents argue that filling natural basins could exacerbate flooding in the west valley. The Harvey family contends that a comprehensive environmental analysis confirms no significant impact on flooding or farmland. They emphasize that the findings address hydrological impacts and noise concerns.

To comply with FAA regulations, Harvey Field must apply for multiple permits from Snohomish County and the state Department of Ecology. Airport owner Kandace Harvey stated the family would not pursue a project harmful to the community. The expansion aims to enhance safety and operational efficiency for users of Harvey Field.
