Snohomish County Parks Awarded More Than 1.6 Million for Park Improvements

Snohomish County Parks received over $1. 6 million in grants aimed at enhancing local parks, including Flowing Lake, Martha Lake, and Paine Field. A significant $500,000 award from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office will fund the Flowing Lake Dock and Waterfront Access Project, replacing the old dock and improving access for water activities. The $681,175 grant designated for Martha Lake Park aims to enhance park access and increase parking capacity. Furthermore, matching funds from the Healthy Kids Initiative Grant will support playground renovations at both Martha Lake Airport Park and Paine Field Community Park, raising their budgets to $500,000 each.

Parks Director Sharon Walker highlighted the grants' role in fostering community-driven outdoor spaces. Community engagement will occur via online surveys in August to gather feedback on the playground designs. The Snohomish County Parks system spans over 11,000 acres and is vital for local recreation and environmental stewardship. This investment reflects a commitment to enhancing public access and outdoor recreation opportunities in the region.
