S. Machias Road to get roundabout at Dubuque Road

Snohomish, WALocal News

Snohomish County will build a roundabout at the S. Machias Road and Dubuque Road intersection, slated for construction in 2027. The design features a bypass lane for southbound traffic, allowing vehicles to bypass the roundabout if they do not wish to turn. Funded entirely by a $4. 3 million federal road safety grant, the project aims to alleviate traffic congestion on Dubuque Road, particularly during morning hours.

An alternative plan involving a traffic signal was evaluated but deemed less effective for improving safety at the Centennial Trail crossing. The roundabout design accommodates trucks and is expected to reduce vehicle crashes at the site. The county awarded the grant in fall 2023, and public comments on land disruption are being accepted until August 4. More details about the project are available on the county's website. The county also plans to improve the intersection at S.

Machias Road and Three Lakes Road in the coming years.
