Saving the Kikendall Cabin, again
The Kikendall cabin, a historic structure in Snohomish, faces an uncertain future as community members seek to relocate it. Originally moved in 1966 to Pioneer Village, the cabin represents the town's commitment to preserving its pioneer heritage. Legal challenges and financial constraints have hindered preservation efforts, resulting in vandalism and deterioration over the years. Ownership of the cabin has transferred from the Snohomish Historical Society to the city, emphasizing the urgency of relocation. Local archeologist Gretchen Kaehler indicated that options include privately owned land or city parks for the cabin's new home.
Security, maintenance, and funding issues remain unresolved, complicating efforts. The community is now called upon to engage actively in the relocation process. If successful, the Kikendall cabin could continue to serve as a testament to Snohomish's rich history.
