New Republic Services RESUMING trash, recycling, waste pickups Monday, says company

Snohomish, WALocal News

Republic Services will resume trash collections in King and Snohomish counties on Monday after a two-week interruption caused by a work stoppage. The company confirmed that the next pickup will align with the regular schedule and will include double loads when feasible. In the interim, cities like Snohomish and Monroe took proactive measures by organizing public drop-off days for residents. Snohomish provided nine dumpsters for residents on July 20, and city spokeswoman Shari Ireton stated they will invoice Republic for the staff and dumpster rental costs. Monroe experienced significant traffic congestion during its drop-off event, with delays reported for residents attempting to access the site.

Both cities have long-term contracts with Republic Services, which do not require the company to offer discounts for missed pickups. Republic continued servicing city facilities during the disruption, including keeping garbage cans in the historic district. The city of Snohomish is contracted with Republic until 2031.
