Republic Services trash pickups interrupted for time being - and why
Republic Services workers in Snohomish and King counties have halted work to support Teamsters Local on strike at a Lacey landfill. As of July 11, the union reported waiting for Republic to initiate negotiations. The work stoppage affects local garbage, recycling, and yard waste services until the Lacey contract is resolved. Republic Services is considering alternative measures, including drop-off locations for waste collection. Local Teamsters are not striking but are also abstaining from work in solidarity.
Public works officials confirmed that Snohomish County's transfer stations and recycling services remain operational. The company is communicating with customers about service interruptions and exploring staffing solutions to resume limited operations. The strike highlights ongoing issues in labor negotiations, as 2,000 of the 6,000 Teamsters workers for Republic are currently on strike nationwide.
