Next chief of Snohomish Regional Fire hails from California city department

Snohomish, WALocal News

Snohomish Regional Fire and Rescue (SRFR) has appointed Brian Park as its new fire chief, following Chief Kevin O’Brien's announcement of retirement in mid-July. Park comes from Rialto, California, where he led a department that handled over 25,000 calls last year. The SRFR board voted 6-1 to approve Park's hiring, selecting him over several finalists, including three internal candidates. A union representative affirmed the collective's support for the new chief, indicating a positive transition. The board also expressed interest in a potential merger with Snohomish Fire District 4, reflecting a strategic direction for SRFR.

This leadership change comes as SRFR seeks to enhance its service across a region of 135 square miles with a population of 160,000 residents. Park's experience in a densely populated area may benefit SRFR as it navigates its operational challenges. The appointment marks a significant step in the agency's evolution and responsiveness to community needs.
