E-bikes distributed to selected Shoreline residents

Shoreline, WALocal News

Shoreline's transportation sector accounts for 55% of the city's greenhouse gas emissions, primarily from gasoline-powered vehicles. The city aims to reduce these emissions by 60% by 2030, a challenging goal that requires significant community involvement. To facilitate this transition, Shoreline promotes biking and other transportation alternatives. In early 2025, the city was awarded a grant from the Washington State Department of Ecology to improve air quality in an overburdened community. The Pedal Forward Shoreline initiative will distribute around 100 free e-bikes to residents living between 145th and 165th and 5th to 25th avenues.

Participants will receive an e-bike, safety gear, and a bike lock, encouraging more residents to cycle instead of driving. The City has partnered with Cascade Bicycle Club to manage the program, covering e-bike assembly and distribution. This effort not only aims to meet emission reduction targets but also to mitigate air pollution from vehicles.
