Data breach at Providence Swedish

Shoreline, WALocal News

Providence Swedish disclosed a data breach involving patient records from Stevens Memorial Hospital, resulting from a security incident at Nationwide Recovery Services (NRS). The breach occurred between July 5 and 11, 2024, exposing sensitive data such as names, birth dates, Social Security numbers, and financial information. In response, Providence Swedish is providing affected patients with one year of complimentary identity protection services. They have also received written assurances from NRS regarding the security of their systems following the incident, which has led to the implementation of additional cybersecurity measures. The compromised data includes records dating from October 1989 to December 1997, raising concerns about long-term patient privacy.

Providence Swedish, located at 21601 76th Ave W, Edmonds, WA, emphasizes their commitment to safeguarding patient information. While NRS is no longer a vendor, Providence Swedish aims to handle the situation with transparency and promptness. The incident highlights the ongoing challenges healthcare organizations face in protecting sensitive patient data.
