Mulching at Midvale

Shoreline, WALocal News

On May 3, 2025, volunteers gathered at Midvale Gardens to rehabilitate a site that was previously dominated by blackberry vines and associated drug use. They applied cardboard and mulch to suppress blackberry roots, a method designed to restore the land effectively. The presence of drug users had made the area unsafe, highlighting the need for community action. Local organizations, including Diggin' Shoreline, spearheaded this initiative, reflecting a broader commitment to improving public spaces. The project aims to create a safe and pleasant environment for residents and trail users alike.

Historical neglect of the land has led to significant community concern, prompting this volunteer response. Ongoing efforts will be necessary to maintain the improvements and prevent future issues. The transformation of Midvale Gardens serves as a model for similar community-led restoration projects.
