On May 13, 2025, a free class on attracting pollinators and native birds will take place at the North City Water District in Shoreline. This initiative responds to the significant decline of honeybees, butterflies, and backyard birds, which are crucial to local ecosystems. Participants will learn essential gardening practices, including reducing toxins, enhancing soil health, and selecting the right plants for their gardens. The curriculum includes the five steps of Natural Yard Care and basic practices for Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Attendees must register beforehand by contacting the North City Water District.

Ladd Smith, a seasoned horticulturist and co-founder of In Harmony Sustainable Landscapes, will lead the session. With over 25 years in the field, Smith is known for his expertise in organic landscaping. This class represents a practical approach to fostering biodiversity in home gardens.
