Kenmore Police report highlights Regional Crisis Response success
The Kenmore Police Service Report highlights the city's low crime rate, ranking it fourth lowest per capita in King County, despite a staffing level of only 0. 62 officers per 1,000 residents. Chief Brandon Moen presented the findings to the City Council, noting the effectiveness of the Regional Crisis Response (RCR) program. This collaboration has resulted in a 68% reduction in adult jail bookings and a 58% decrease in crisis events, showcasing a significant positive impact on community safety. The RCR program, involving police and mental health professionals, has created a supportive relationship that enhances crisis response.
Kenmore's police force currently consists of 12 commissioned officers, with two vacancies contributing to staffing challenges. The city contracts police services from the King County Sheriff's Office, which provides dedicated officers and resources. Shoreline and Woodinville also utilize KCSO services, while Lake Forest Park and Bothell maintain independent departments. The success of RCR reflects a broader trend toward integrating mental health support into law enforcement practices.
