Kenmore will accept $7. 5 million from King County to develop a public park on a 13. 29-acre portion of the Lakepointe industrial lot. This initiative includes creating a scenic waterfront trail and restoring wildlife habitats, supported by an additional $450,000 for cleanup of the former landfill site. The property was recently appraised at $8.

9 million, but negotiations for a purchase agreement are ongoing. Before finalizing the purchase, the city will conduct due diligence, including testing for contaminants, with the county providing $450,000 for this purpose. Kenmore plans to establish a Metropolitan Park District to fund ongoing park maintenance and development. The city has pursued redevelopment of the landfill since 1989, facing setbacks including a failed $1. 5 billion mixed-use project in 2018.

The state Department of Ecology lists Lakepointe as a polluted site, but past tests have shown varying levels of contamination. Kenmore's commitment to this project underscores its long-standing efforts to revitalize the area and enhance community resources.
