Across the street from its mushroom coffee cafe cousin, Cupcake Royale is returning to Capitol Hill

Seattle, WALocal News

Cupcake Royale will return to Capitol Hill, occupying the space formerly held by Big Little News. Founded by Jody Hall, the chain aims to showcase its baked goods in smaller shops after a two-year hiatus from the neighborhood. Big Little News, run by Joey Burgess and Tracy Taylor, closed in May after three years despite the experience of its operators. The location has a rich history, previously hosting the beloved vintage shop No Parking. In 2021, Hall shifted the E Pike location to a mushroom coffee cafe, which remains unique in the area.

Cupcake Royale celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2023 and now seeks to reestablish its presence at 1102 E Pike. Hall's move reflects a strategy to adapt to changing consumer preferences. The anticipated opening marks a significant return for the brand to its original community roots.
