Seattle Memorial Stadium final project plans approved, public goodbye planned

Seattle, WALocal News

Seattle officials have approved the final transaction documents for a new Memorial Stadium, paving the way for construction to begin this summer. The $140 million project will replace the existing stadium from the 1940s and will include a 6,500-seat capacity, expandable to 8,000 for various events. The new stadium will preserve the original World War II monument on the site, ensuring that the legacy continues. A farewell event is scheduled for June 26, where the public can bid farewell to the current facility, enjoy food from local food trucks, and experience performances by the Seattle Public Schools All-City Marching Band. Seattle Center Director Marshall Foster highlighted the stadium's historical significance to the community, expressing excitement for the new facility.

Attendees are encouraged to contribute their photos and memories, which will be displayed during the event. The collaboration between the city, school district, and One Roof Stadium Partnership underscores the importance of community engagement in this project. This new stadium aims to serve student athletes and host music and cultural events, revitalizing the Seattle Center area.
