Seafair kicks off with KOMO legend Eric Johnson crowned King Neptune

Seattle's Seafair Festival kicked off its summer celebrations on June 20, 2025, with Eric Johnson named King Neptune. The festival embraces a "Bigger. Better. Bolder. " theme under the leadership of new President and CEO Emily Cantrell.

Significant changes include relocating the Torchlight Parade to the waterfront, enhancing community engagement. The inaugural Seafair Community Hero program recognized Mercy Haub, a dedicated cancer advocate, with a $5,000 scholarship for her leadership. The event attracted local dignitaries, including Mayor Bruce Harrell, and featured performances as well as the crowning of Seafair Royalty. Seafair has been a Seattle tradition since 1950, representing the city's summer spirit. Upcoming highlights include the 4th of July celebrations, the Torchlight Parade, and the main Seafair Weekend Festival, showcasing hydroplane races and the U.

S. Navy Blue Angels. The festival's changes aim to foster a sense of joy and unity in the community.
