Flames destroy part of downtown Puyallup apartment building

A fire tore through part of an apartment complex in downtown Puyallup on Thursday night, displacing 11 residents and resulting in one individual being hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Central Pierce Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched to the scene at 10:35 p. m. after flames were reported coming through the roof of two central units. The fire escalated to a two-alarm response, prompting additional firefighters to assist in extinguishing the blaze.

Firefighters worked from both inside and outside the building, successfully bringing the fire under control by 12:27 a. m. Friday. All occupants were evacuated without further injuries. Local officials confirmed that the cause of the fire is under investigation, and the Red Cross is assisting those displaced.

Such incidents highlight the need for fire safety measures in residential buildings. The community remains on alert as investigations continue.
