Suspect jumps in water in Rainier Beach area after shooting at officers

A 33-year-old man is in custody after firing a shot at Seattle police officers and attempting to flee into Lake Washington. The incident began around 6:25 a. m. when officers responded to an assault report in the Rainier Beach area. While officers attempted to apprehend him, the suspect fired a shot but did not injure any of the officers present.

A multi-agency search, including Seattle police, Tukwila police, and King County deputies, was initiated as neighbors reported sightings of the man running through backyards. Police advised residents to shelter in place during the pursuit. The suspect was spotted running towards the Atlantic City Boat Ramp, where he jumped into the lake. Officers rescued him just before 8:30 a. m.

, and he was taken into custody and evaluated at a hospital. This incident is distinct from a previous shooting involving another suspect in Madison Park, highlighting ongoing safety concerns in the area.
