Mayor Harrell 'Bad actors shouldnt overshadow peaceful No Kings protest

Seattle, WALocal News

Protests against ICE in Seattle escalated, with demonstrators blocking traffic and lighting fires near the federal courthouse. Mayor Bruce Harrell praised the peaceful nature of the larger 'No Kings' march, attended by over 70,000, without reported incidents. However, independent journalist Cam Higby reported being assaulted during the protests, calling for justice amid ongoing violence. Seattle police confirmed a homicide and assault detective is investigating the incident, while previous arrests occurred during earlier protests. Harrell emphasized that the actions of a few should not overshadow the majority's commitment to peaceful protest.

Local voices, including former sheriff's investigator Jim Fuda, expressed concern over individuals seeking to disrupt the peaceful demonstrations. The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office noted that no felony charges had yet been filed related to the protests. The city remains committed to facilitating free speech while ensuring public safety during future demonstrations.
