Industry giant Anheuser-Busch parts way with Redhook and its Capitol Hill BrewLab in 85M deal with global cannabis-lifestyle company
Anheuser-Busch InBev has sold Redhook Brewery and additional craft brands like Shock Top to Tilray for $85 million, including all employees and facilities. The decision arises amid plummeting sales and backlash against Bud Light, Anheuser-Busch's flagship product. Redhook’s future at its Capitol Hill BrewLab, designed for small-batch experimentation, is uncertain under Tilray's ownership. Analysts have noted Tilray’s penchant for innovation within the cannabis beverage space, which may influence Redhook’s operations. Historically, Anheuser-Busch acquired a 25% stake in Redhook in 1994, later merging it with Widmer in 2010.
The BrewLab aimed to create new recipes for local markets, but production had been limited to smaller batches. This sale reflects broader trends in the craft beer sector, with companies adapting to shifting consumer demands for unique and locally produced beverages. The deal signals potential changes in the competitive landscape as Tilray expands its portfolio in the craft beverage market.
