With daunting list of open issues, Seattle City Council comprehensive growth plan committee meets Friday

Seattle, WALocal News

Seattle's Select Committee on the Comprehensive Plan will gather Friday to finalize the city’s 20-year growth plan, which introduces new Middle Housing laws. This meeting comes after planners revised the borders of nine out of thirty proposed Neighborhood Centers due to significant opposition from wealthier neighborhoods. The agenda will tackle key zoning expansions, land use elements, and the state’s Middle Housing requirements. Issues related to transit access and environmentally critical areas will also be discussed. Earlier this month, the council passed an interim bill to meet the state’s minimum requirements for Middle Housing just before a legal deadline.

The committee's work this summer is crucial for finalizing broader legislation that will impact Seattle's housing landscape. The session reflects the city's efforts to balance growth with community concerns. Stakeholders await the results of this pivotal meeting, which may shape future zoning and housing policies.
