Seattle Pride loses big sponsors amid national pullback
Major corporations are stepping back from Pride celebrations this year, reflecting a broader trend in corporate America amid federal opposition to diversity initiatives. Sponsors like Boeing, Mastercard, and Expedia have opted out of the Seattle Pride Parade, with similar withdrawals reported at NYC Pride and WorldPride in Washington, D. C. Gravity Research indicates that 39% of corporations are reducing their external Pride Month engagements, a sharp rise from just 9% last year. Furthermore, 57% of federal contractors are likely to cut back, citing fears of federal investigations.
Seattle Pride has garnered about $20,000 in individual donations since March, emphasizing the importance of grassroots support. The organization stated that reliance on corporate sponsorships is insufficient for the future of Pride. The Seattle Pride Parade will commence on June 29 at 11 AM. The lack of corporate sponsorship exemplifies the challenges faced by Pride organizations in maintaining visibility and support during a politically charged climate.
