No opening date yet for Seattle waterfront playground

Seattle, WALocal News

Seattle's Pier 58 playground, which features a giant climbable jellyfish, remains without a specific opening date as final safety installations are pending. City officials maintain hopes for a summer opening but are unable to commit to a timeline. Challenges in sourcing materials, particularly fabricated metal products, have delayed progress. Earlier predictions pointed to a late spring or early summer opening, but those estimates have proven overly optimistic. The Associated General Contractors of America recently indicated that higher tariffs could raise costs and disrupt supply chains, potentially impacting the project.

Officials have not confirmed whether recent tariff expansions under the Trump administration are affecting material availability. A grand-opening celebration is planned for after the playground's completion, highlighting the project's significance for the community. The redevelopment aims to enhance Seattle's waterfront experience for residents and visitors alike.
