One case filed so far after 31 people were arrested at Seattle protests
Seattle police arrested 31 individuals during two protests, with only one misdemeanor assault case filed so far, according to court records. The King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office stated that no felony charges have been determined as no cases have been referred to them yet. The protests were a reaction to a Christian rally by MAYDAY USA, which emphasized themes against abortion and gender identity, leading to accusations of transphobia. Mayor Bruce Harrell condemned the rally and expressed support for counter-protesters, asserting that the far-right event aimed to provoke reactions in Seattle's LGBTQ+ neighborhood. In response to Harrell's comments, a second rally titled "Rattle in Seattle" is planned, calling for his resignation.
Reports indicate that several protesters assaulted police officers during the events, which resulted in additional arrests. The Seattle Police Department continues to investigate the incidents, and no felony case referrals have been submitted. The Prosecutor's Office will evaluate cases individually once referrals are made, reviewing all available evidence.
