More than a free lunch, USO NW provides a respite for JBLM soldiers at its Camp Lewis

Seattle, WALocal News

The USO Northwest provides monthly lunches at Joint Base Lewis McChord, enhancing morale among soldiers. Army Mechanic Joshua Merazmendoza expressed appreciation for the food and the safe space offered. Volunteer Jennie Juarez-Dowd has been dedicated to serving lunches since the Camp Lewis center opened in 2018, relishing the gratitude of the soldiers. Recent donations, including $10,000 from the Titus-Will Automotive Group, are vital for sustaining these initiatives. Soldiers like Carlos Perez-Resto and Specialist Nicholas Lawrence value the opportunity to decompress during their busy schedules.

The USO’s mission has evolved since its inception in 1941, continuously adapting to support military personnel across Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. The community's involvement is essential, with all resources funded through donations. This initiative not only provides meals but also fosters connections and a sense of belonging for the troops.
