Seattle's new Memorial Stadium plan near key final votes, groundbreaking in June

Seattle's Park Committee unanimously approved plans for a new Memorial Stadium, bringing the project closer to reality. The approval comes after years of discussions and funding efforts involving the Seattle School District, city, state, and philanthropic contributions. Groundbreaking is now set for June 26, with the stadium's opening targeted for September 2027. A final vote by the full council is scheduled for June 3, which will be followed by a vote at the Seattle School Board meeting. Council committee chair Joy Hollingsworth described the decision as “positive news” for the city, highlighting the long history of the Memorial Stadium as a venue for significant events, including the World’s Fair.

The total funding secured includes both public and private sources, showcasing community support for the project. Once completed, the new stadium aims to enhance Seattle Center's offerings and attract more events. This project represents a significant investment in local infrastructure and community engagement.
