FBI deputy director announces investigation into religious violence at Capitol Hill rally

Seattle, WALocal News

The FBI announced an investigation into allegations of targeted violence against religious groups during a May 24 rally in Cal Anderson Park, Seattle, organized by MayDay USA, a Christian Pro-Life organization. The rally faced opposition from LGBTQ+ protesters, leading to multiple clashes and 23 arrests. Mayor Bruce Harrell condemned the choice of location, suggesting it was intentionally provocative given the park's significance to the LGBTQ+ community. He stated that the rally's aim was to promote beliefs contrary to the city's values. Councilmember Bob Kettle echoed these sentiments, calling the decision to permit the rally at Cal Anderson a mistake and emphasizing the need for respectful protest.

The Seattle Police Department reported no felony charges have been filed against those arrested, and the investigation continues. The FBI's involvement highlights the serious nature of the allegations surrounding the event. Community leaders are now seeking to understand the dynamics that led to the confrontations and ensure the protection of all citizens' rights.
