Driver detained after crashing into 2 Burien homes

Seattle, WALocal News

A driver crashed into two homes in Burien, Washington, on May 26, 2025, causing extensive damage but miraculously resulting in no serious injuries. The King County Sheriff's Office suspects the driver passed a stop sign and hit a curb, propelling his vehicle into the residences around 2:30 p. m. Witnesses described the crash as sounding like an explosion, leaving neighbors in disbelief. Mark Kollasch, whose home was severely damaged, voiced his relief that his family was not home at the time, though they lost many personal belongings.

Residents highlighted ongoing issues with speeding and stop sign violations in the area, with one neighbor suggesting the need for speed bumps. The sheriff's office is investigating whether the driver was impaired and other contributing factors, including speeding. Kollasch mentioned that this incident may force his family to relocate after years of living in their home. The community is left grappling with the aftermath and seeking solutions to enhance safety at the dangerous intersection.
