Low tides this week are great for exploring tide pools, some ferry routes affected

Seattle, WALocal News

Seattle will experience some of the lowest tides of the year during the week of May 26, particularly on Wednesday when the tide will drop to -3. 42 feet at 10:52 a. m. This coincides with warm weather, with temperatures expected to reach 84 degrees, making it a prime time for beachcombing and exploring tide pools. However, the warm temperatures could adversely affect aquaculture as shallow waters warm.

Washington State Ferries has issued a notice that oversized vehicles with less than 12 inches of clearance will be prohibited on specific ferry routes during low tide hours this week. The affected ferry routes include Mukilteo/Clinton and Edmonds/Kingston. Naturalists from the Seattle Aquarium will be present at popular sites such as Constellation Park and Brackett's Landing to help visitors learn about marine life. Beachgoers are encouraged to practice etiquette while exploring to protect delicate marine habitats. The low tide events will also serve as a precursor to the more extreme King Tides cycle expected later this year.
