Judge orders release of 7 protesters after Cal Anderson Park rally arrests

Seattle, WALocal News

A judge ordered the release of seven protesters arrested during violent confrontations with police at Cal Anderson Park in Seattle over the weekend. The unrest stemmed from a clash between a Christian Pro-Life rally organized by MayDay USA and LGBTQ+ counter-protesters. Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell criticized the far-right rally, suggesting it was designed to provoke tensions in a prominent LGBTQ+ neighborhood. He also pointed to anarchists who allegedly inspired violence among counter-protesters. A spokesperson for Seattle Parks confirmed that MayDay USA secured a permit for their gathering at the park, which met their logistical needs.

Overall, 23 individuals were arrested during the incident, but only one faced a bond requirement related to robbery and assault. The King County Prosecutor’s Office has not received felony recommendations, and no charges have been filed as of now. This incident highlights ongoing tensions in Seattle regarding free speech and community values.
