Revival Effort to restart Capitol Hill Community Council ready to take big step in September

Seattle, WALocal News

Chris Paulus seeks to revive the Capitol Hill Community Council (CHCC) after its dissolution in 2021 due to declining participation and lack of leadership. He has contacted over 50 organizations and plans to host a meeting on September 10 at the Capitol Hill Public Library to encourage community engagement. Paulus believes that fostering connections among neighbors is critical for addressing local issues such as school closures and pedestrian safety. His outreach included religious groups on Capitol Hill, which he views as vital to mobilizing civic participation. The CHCC had previously advocated for community needs, such as the Rt 8 bus line in the 1990s, demonstrating its historical role in local governance.

Paulus aims to establish a council that brings residents together to collaboratively tackle challenges. He hopes the revival will lead to initiatives like promoting neighborhood participation at local events. Acknowledging past challenges, he encourages the community to take time for the council to settle and grow organically.
