PWHL unveils expansion draft, signing guidelines for its 2 new teams in Seattle, Vancouver

Seattle, WASports

The PWHL will initiate a two-phase roster stocking process for its new teams in Seattle and Vancouver, starting with a free agency period from June 4-8, followed by an expansion draft on June 9. Existing teams must protect three players, with the option to add a fourth after losing two. Seattle and Vancouver can sign up to five free agents during the signing window, which may include players with expiring contracts. This structured approach is designed to promote competitive balance within the league as it prepares for the upcoming draft on June 24. The PWHL has not yet disclosed how the new teams will fit into the draft order.

The league is also hiring general managers and coaching staff for the expansion teams. Vancouver and Seattle were selected as the first expansion franchises last month. The PWHL is concluding its second season, with the Minnesota Frost set to compete against the Ottawa Charge in the championship final series.
