Seattle launches a survey to gather input from Capitol Hill's residents, workers, and visitors on the importance of street trees. Currently, Capitol Hill has only 15. 02% tree canopy coverage, significantly below the city's goal of 30% by 2037. The Seattle Department of Transportation emphasizes that trees offer essential environmental, health, and social benefits. Participants can express their willingness to volunteer for tree planting or maintenance, and whether they would forgo street parking for new trees.

The survey will inform tree planting strategies in several neighborhoods including South Park and SoDo. In the previous year, Seattle planted over 10,000 trees, with 900 specifically along streets and sidewalks, aided by levy funding. This community engagement aims to create a more sustainable urban environment. The survey remains open until May 23rd, encouraging public involvement in the city's green initiatives.
