Next week East Precinct Community-Police Dialogue meeting on top public safety concerns

Seattle, WALocal News

The Seattle Police Department and researchers from Seattle University will hold an online “Community-Police Dialogue” on May 12 to discuss public safety in the East Precinct. The meeting will focus on results from the 2024 Seattle Public Safety Survey, which highlighted traffic safety as the top concern among residents, surpassing traditional fears of theft and violence. Early 2025 data indicates that property crimes in the East Precinct did not decline as they did in other areas, such as a 26% drop in the North Precinct. Additionally, violent crime rates, including a rise in reported sexual assaults, have increased in the East Precinct. Organizers invite community members, Seattle Police recruits, and various personnel to participate in the dialogue.

This meeting represents an effort to enhance community engagement and address pressing safety issues collaboratively. The SPD Micro-Community Policing Plans survey aims to provide actionable insights to improve local safety. By fostering communication between residents and law enforcement, the initiative seeks to build trust and responsiveness within the community.
