A year later, court proceedings continue in Capitol Hill Station fatal stabbing case

Seattle, WALocal News

Court proceedings are still underway over a year after Corey Bellett was fatally stabbed at Capitol Hill Station. The trial set for June is now uncertain as defendant Shawn Patrick Moore has not yet secured new legal counsel due to a conflict of interest with his prior public defender. In the latest hearing, the court allowed a video of a privileged discussion between Moore and his attorney to be entered into evidence under seal to protect the defendant's rights. Prosecutors claim Moore killed Bellett during a brawl that erupted from a confrontation on an escalator. Bellett, a 37-year-old restaurant worker, was remembered at a fundraiser in June 2024.

Moore, who has been jailed since his arrest, faces charges of second-degree murder and witness intimidation. His criminal history includes drug, traffic, and domestic violence offenses. A letter from Moore's father revealed his struggles with childhood trauma and homelessness following a robbery in 2022.
