There is a spring 2025 construction crane busy over Capitol Hill

Seattle, WALocal News

The Tanager Apartments project at 14th and Union is one of the few major multifamily housing developments in Capitol Hill, with a completion date anticipated for July 2026. This seven-story mixed-use building will consist of 138 units and is designed by Board and Vellum, with construction managed by Compass Construction. The project's scope has increased since its initial planning, which originally involved demolishing the former La Panzanella bakery. The acquisition of the Talbot Building garage allowed for a more extensive development, halting previous plans for a new car dealership in the area. Local businesses such as Chop Suey and Madison Pub remain operational, highlighting community resilience amid construction.

The Tanager Apartments project seeks to address the growing demand for housing in a neighborhood noted for its vibrant nightlife and cultural diversity. The construction site has recently received permits for essential work, including street tree planting. This development signifies a shift in Capitol Hill's landscape, moving towards more multifamily housing amid a broader slowdown in urban construction.
