One to hospital after shooting in Broadway shopping center parking lot

A woman was hospitalized following a shooting at the Harvard Market shopping center parking lot early Sunday morning. Police arrived at the scene around 1:30 AM to find fleeing vehicles, shattered glass, and blood, but no victim initially present. Twenty minutes later, a driver in a grey Mercedes SUV dropped the gunshot victim at Harborview Medical Center. The incident occurred near surveillance equipment installed to deter crime, emphasizing ongoing safety concerns in the area. Local business representatives have formed the Pike/Pine/Broadway Safety Coalition, urging city officials to address street disorder and drug dealing exacerbated by the fentanyl crisis.

Mayor Bruce Harrell is set to hold a public safety forum on Tuesday to discuss strategies to improve safety in Capitol Hill and the Central District. The police are collecting video evidence and investigating the shooting, with the Gun Violence Reduction Unit leading the inquiry. Community members are encouraged to report any information related to the incident to the police.
