Garfield High School student killed during Yakima house party shooting

An 18-year-old Garfield High School student, Salvador “Junior” Granillo, was fatally shot at a Yakima party early Sunday morning. The Yakima County Sheriff's Office reported that the shooting occurred shortly after 2 a. m. and followed an altercation at the event. Granillo was transported to MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A 21-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder. The Garfield High School Parent Teacher Student Association confirmed Granillo’s identity and expressed condolences via social media. A candlelight vigil was held on Monday in front of the school to honor his memory. The school community will also collect flowers on Tuesday morning to pay tribute to Granillo’s life.
