1.4B King County Parks levy renewal to appear on August ballot

Seattle, WALocal News

The King County Council has advanced a significant proposal to place a $1. 4 billion renewal of the county’s park levy on the August ballot. This six-year levy aims to generate essential funds for the operation and maintenance of King County’s extensive parks, trails, and open spaces. With an initial levy rate of 23. 29 cents per $1,000 of assessed value, it would cost the owner of a median-valued home approximately $16.

33 per month. Originally approved by voters in 2003, the levy has consistently garnered support, with a notable renewal in 2019 at a lower rate of 18. 32 cents. The proposed increase of 27% reflects the impacts of rising property values, population growth, and inflation. The funds will support a variety of programs, including capital improvements and environmental stewardship initiatives.

As Seattle voters gear up for the upcoming election season, they will also be considering several key local races. This renewal represents a crucial investment in the community’s recreational infrastructure and environmental health.
