Dow Constantine appointed as Sound Transit's next CEO, starting April 1

Dow Constantine has been appointed as the new CEO of Sound Transit, with his tenure commencing on April 1, 2025. This decision follows a rigorous selection process where the Board reviewed 60 candidates and interviewed 15. Dave Somers, the Sound Transit Board Chair and Snohomish County Executive, expressed strong confidence in Constantine's abilities, citing his deep understanding of the agency and his experience overseeing major organizations. Constantine, who has served as King County Executive since 2009, welcomed the opportunity, emphasizing his dedication to enhancing the region's transit infrastructure. Local leaders, including Ray Stephanson and Nathe Lawver, reinforced their support, noting the importance of completing light rail connections to Everett and Tacoma.

They praised Constantine's focus on essential workers and working families, underscoring the broader community implications of his leadership. His initial term will last until December 31, 2026, with a base salary set at $450,000. Interim CEO Goran Sparrman will remain as acting CEO until May 2, 2025, ensuring a smooth transition.
