Detainee escapes secure ICE processing facility in Tacoma

Seattle, WALocal News

In Tacoma, Washington, a detainee escaped from the ICE Northwest Processing Center on Wednesday evening, raising concerns among local authorities. The escape was reported to South Sound 911 at approximately 7:30 p. m. , which led to a request for assistance from the Tacoma Police Department (TPD). Officers conducted area checks in patrol vehicles but unfortunately could not locate the escapee.

The situation is currently being managed by the resources at the Northwest Processing Center, which is owned by the GEO Group, a private contractor operating multiple secure facilities across the nation. The escape highlights ongoing discussions surrounding immigration enforcement and the conditions within detention facilities. Notably, there is a camp outside the facility operated by La Resistencia, which advocates for the rights of immigrants. As of Friday morning, KOMO News has attempted to contact the GEO Group for comments but has yet to receive a response. The lack of detailed information about the escapee or the circumstances surrounding the incident adds to the urgency of the situation for both authorities and the local community.
