Another major Mexican closure on Capitol Hill as Mezcaleria Oaxaca plans October adios

Seattle, WALocal News

Mezcaleria Oaxaca is set to close its doors on October 1st, marking the end of a decade-long presence on E Pine and the second notable Mexican restaurant closure in Capitol Hill in a short span. The restaurant, which was known for its collaborations with esteemed Mexican chefs and unique dining experiences, cited the pressures of adapting to evolving regulations and the economic impact of the pandemic as key factors in its decision to close. The announcement emphasized the restaurant's continuous evolution to meet the changing demands of the neighborhood. Despite this setback, the restaurant's sister establishments, La Carta de Oaxaca in Ballard and El Mezcalito in Queen Anne, will remain operational. Mezcaleria Oaxaca was originally launched in 2014 as an ambitious project by the Dominguez-Perez family and business owner Graham Graham.

The closure follows an unsuccessful attempt to transform the restaurant into a vibrant complex of Mexican food and drink. The fate of the property, recently purchased for $2. 3 million, remains uncertain. The community will look to other local Mexican restaurants like La Cocina Oaxaquena and Fogon, which continue to thrive in the area.
