More weekend trips for Metro include Rt. 8 and RapidRide G in Seattle Transit Measure-boosted spring service updates

Seattle, WALocal News

King County Metro is rolling out significant spring service updates aimed at enhancing bus routes in Seattle, enabled by a sales tax increase approved in 2020. The changes will include an increase in weekend trips on Route 8 and the addition of late-night services on the RapidRide G line. Metro General Manager Michelle Allison noted that the agency is currently experiencing a surge in ridership, with nearly 90 million boardings recorded in 2024. The Seattle Transit Measure, funded by a 0. 15% sales tax, allows for hundreds of new weekend bus trips, expanding access to public transportation.

Mayor Bruce Harrell emphasized the initiative's role in fostering a more connected and equitable city, which is essential for supporting local businesses and community engagement. Specific changes include eight new trips on Route 8 on Saturdays and 33 on Sundays, among others. The updates are designed to meet the growing demand for reliable transit options in the city. All service changes will take effect on March 29th, ensuring that residents can enjoy improved transportation options just in time for the spring season.
