Man charged for crash that sent SUV plummeting off overpass had 35 traffic infractions

Seattle, WALocal News

Daud Sakerie Mohamud, who has a significant history of traffic violations, has been arrested following a tragic hit-and-run incident in Seattle that resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries. The crash occurred on March 7 when his black Highlander SUV fell from the SR599 overpass onto I-5, killing 27-year-old Abdiqadir Mohamed Ahmed and severely injuring another passenger, Bilal Adbulkadir Abdullahi. Eyewitnesses reported that Mohamud fled the scene, prompting a police search that led to his discovery nearby, where he was found injured and disoriented. Initially, he claimed that Ahmed was driving the SUV, but his family confirmed he was the operator at the time of the crash. Mohamud faces several charges, including hit-and-run and driving with a suspended license, and has a troubling history, with over 35 traffic infractions since 2013.

He was admitted to Harborview Medical Center with minor injuries and later booked into King County Jail on $100,000 bail. Authorities have recommended that he be electronically monitored if released. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about reckless driving and the severe consequences that can arise from traffic violations.
